The Mythology of the Rainbow

Almost every religion includes the rainbow. Here are the lucky number 7.

Greeks believed the rainbow was a road used to by Isis to deliver messages between heaven and Earth.

Chinese mythology says the rainbow is a slit in the sky sealed by Nuwa using seven different colored stones. Nuwa is the being responsible for the repopulation of humans after a calamity. One such time Nuwa seals the sky is after calamitious flooding circa 500-200BC.

The Norse belived a rainbow called the Bifrost Bridge connected the Earth to the Heavens, or Midgard and Asgard. The bridge will be destroyed at Ragnarok, the end of the world.

Hindus call the rainbow Indradhanush, or Indras bow. Indra, a weather and war got credited with bringing water to the Earth.

Genesis claims the rainbow is a sign of the covenant between God and mankind promising he will never again destroy the world with a flood. Noah lived 11 generations before Jesus, circa 500-200 BC

The Mayan believe the rainbow signifies the beginning of a new age after the old one was destroyed by a fiery rain that fell from the sky.

The Navajo believe God travels on the rainbow, because it moves so quickly. It is also a bridge between this world and the other side.
